Kathryn + Matt

A Celebration of Love

Wedding Party in Grand Cayman

In 2018, fate intervened in the lives of Kathryn, a nurse, and Matt, a college baseball coach. They met at an ASU Football tailgate. Matt was at the next tailgate over from Kathryn’s and, although the meeting was brief, it became a memorable one. They continued to run into each other across town over the next year, until they finally gave into what the universe was trying to tell them: Obviously, they were supposed to be together, and they thought so, too.

They wanted to get married in Grand Cayman for several reasons, not the least of which was the great beauty the island offers. A good sense of community and friendly and welcoming people were driving factors in their choosing of wedding destination.

The 3 main criteria for their wedding? Good food, good booze, and a great party. Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa checked all three.

Memorable Details

The morning of the wedding the bride and groom woke up together, with the groom being swiftly whisked away to leave the women to get ready. With ABBA playing and the champagne flowing, the women had their makeup and hair done, in between dance breaks. The groom and his groomsmen were provided the SeaBridge room to get ready, which they took full advantage of. The men spent the morning at the beach, ate lunch at Coccoloba, and opened several tabs at the Pool Bar before getting ready for the big event. To the relief of Kathryn and her bridesmaids, they were all very well behaved, albeit a little dehydrated. After photos and a round of spicy margaritas, it was time.

The ceremony took place on the Aurea Lawn, a lush tropical garden, perfectly tucked away with white wildflowers lining either side of the aisle, an item on Kathryn’s wedding wish list. The couple decided to forego the traditional Flower Girl, in lieu of members of the wedding party passing out beer. The guests had tremendous fun as evidenced by the smiles on the faces in photos. The ceremony felt inclusive of all guests and was exactly what the couple was hoping for.

The beauty and fun did not stop at the ceremony. The Beach Deck was beautifully adorned with stunning florals for the reception. Breathtaking white wildflowers flanked the sweetheart table while smaller arrangements sat atop the guest tables, all overwhelmingly beautiful, especially when paired with the beach backdrop, the delicate white draping of the linens, and the soft lighting. Every bit of the day was exactly how the bride had envisioned it.
